Students qualify for state speech contest

Greene County and Paton-Churdan will be represented at the Iowa High School Speech Association’s individual events state contest at Johnston High School March 11. Members of both speech teams earned “I” ratings at a district contest held last Saturday at ADM High School and qualified for the state contest.

Greene County students earning “I” ratings were Natalie Payan in poetry and acting, Michael Kennedy in musical theater and storytelling, Arthur Bardole in storytelling and musical theater, Emily Heupel in prose, Regan Lamoureux in expository address, Claire Teusch in literary program, Jack Schilling in poetry, and Hannah Promes in prose.

Students who received “II” ratings were Jordan David in after dinner speaking and poetry, Kassie Lamoureux in prose, Savannah Parker in literary program, and Naomi Long in poetry.

Greene County speech coaches are Kelley Gray and Darren Jackson.

The Paton-Churdan speech team had seven events at the contest.

Autumn Gannon received “I” ratings in original oratory and storytelling. Brianna Jewett received a “I” in poetry and Megan Carey received a “I” in acting.

Receiving “II” ratings were Jack Bryson in spontaneous speaking and Ty Smith and Kyla Beyers in poetry.
